Standard Masonry Anchors
Anchors Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 5 are used for tying ashlar back to masonry walls. Anchors Nos. 1, 5, 6, 13 and 14 are used for tying stone back to metal stud wall systems. Pockets are provided in stones for receiving these anchors. Continuous slots running the length of the stone are provided in stones used in metal stud wall systems. These anchors may also be tied to hooks cast in the stone.
Cramp anchor #4 is used under coping stones at vertical joints for tying two stones together. Cramp slots are provided at bottom of coping stones to receive this anchor when specified. Cramps are also provided with the dowel extending from the bottom of the cramp into the masonry wall below the coping for anchoring the coping stones to the masonry wall below and tying the two stones together at vertical joints.
Dowel type #7 may be used on a variety of stones such as copings, ashlar, steps, columns and pilasters. Stones may be doweled together at joints or to the wall below. A 1/2″ diameter by 5″ long dowel is the standard size used. A 1″ diameter by 2 1/2″ deep hole is provided at the ends or bottoms of stones to receive this dowel anchor. By adding straps #6, eye bolts #13 or bent rods #9, stones may be tied together and back to masonry wall or steel.
Anchor #8 is a pipe dowel. Pipe dowels can be used in place of solid steel dowels and are used in conjunction with lead flashing.
Dovetail anchors Nos. 10, 11, and 12 are used to tie stones back to concrete walls and columns. Dovetail reglet slots are provided concrete columns and beams for receiving this anchor. It is best to cast continuous reglet slots in the concrete at the time of pouring to offset pinpointing the locations of anchors in the field to agree with the location of pockets and hooks provided in the stones for the anchors.
Eye Bolt and Dowel Anchor #13 is used for tying fascia stones back to steel and for hanging soffit stones. Anchor #14 and J-Bolts may also be used for this purpose.
Anchors Nos. 15 through 18 are used for anchoring conditions similar to those requiring anchors Nos. 1 through 4 except that dowel holes are provided in the stones instead of anchor slots.
Be sure to specify non-corrosive type anchors. Stainless steel type 302 or 304 are the standard grade used in this class of work.
